God Of The Basement: Whatever, disco breve is the new album by the Italian band, to be released on February 7th, 2025 via Stock-a Production; listen to the brand new single Misera

Whatever, disco breve – translatable as Whatever, a short record – is a sacrilegious slap in the face. God Of The Basement, often abbreviated with the acronym GOTB, are back with their third album, to be released on February 7th, 2025 on vinyl and digital via the international collective Stock-a Production. It’s an album that represents a turning point in their journey. For the first time, the Florentine band – formed by Tommaso Tiranno (vocals), Enrico Giannini (guitar and sampling), Rebecca Lena (bass and visual art) and Alessio Giusti (drums) – has decided to experiment with their own language, while maintaining the international musical imprint that has characterized the songs up to now.

«The ironic album title reflects contemporary reality: music is often consumed in spare moments, in a fragmented or distracted way. We respond to the listening challenge with a concise work, lasting about half an hour». The punk-rock attitude embraces the cause of “less is more”, with a rougher approach than in the past but always playful. Whatever, disco breve was conceived to be enjoyed from beginning to end, keeping the attention high but also letting us go because, in the end, “who cares”.

«Whatever, disco breve is based on the bond between man and machine: a concept that has led the entire making of the album». Narrative voices and aggressive guitars are grafted onto a terrain dominated by drum machines and obsessive bass. Each track contributes to create a dark picture, full of emotions, where the tension between the electronic and the human poles is tangible – mixing alt-rock, crossover, dub, drum and bass and much more. The hypnotic repetition of the pulsations and tribal percussions provides an experience that is both physical and psychological, while the baritone tones convey a vehement gloom, immersing the listener in a visceral atmosphere, almost in line with the productions of the 90s. The lyrics explore universal themes moving between introspection, social criticism and existentialism.

Through the years, GOTB have explored various musical genres. When dealing with live performances, GOTB close a deep connection with their audience: the air is charged with energy, every note is a vital beat. The stage becomes a sanctuary and the public transforms into a congregation ready for the rite. The loud and distorted sounds evoke a powerful and primordial ecstasy. This is what happened also during the secret show of the last autumn, held in the darkness of the Tuscan valleys, which marked in pure “DIY or DIE” style the final development and the self-financing of Whatever, disco breve.

Realized by Killerclip, the video for the first single Misera – available on all digital platforms on December 6th, 2024 – assembles the adrenaline-filled footage shot during the aforementioned secret show. Misera expresses a feeling of frustration and disillusionment, but at the same time claims the right to live and accept these moments without trying to hide or forcefully improve them. The song conveys the idea that sometimes it is legitimate to “suck”, without looking for justifications or excuses within yourself, and it is necessary to smash everything to pieces.

God Of The Basement have been active since 2016. Their sound is an explosion of grooves, old school samples, catchy melodies and electricity, with an aesthetic that conveys surreal visions. The first EP of 2016 led to the eponymous debut album of 2018 that shaped the heterogeneous style of the band. 2021 marked the release of the second album, Bobby Is Dead, that refined the union between heavy pop and visual arts by telling the journey of two mysterious characters. Between 2022 and 2023, the band has released three adventurous singles: TUM, with Caribbean influences, and Loaded, written in collaboration with fellow citizens oodal, up to the nocturnal and minimal Tale Of A Devil (And A Bar Table). Now is the time for Whatever, disco breve.
