Light continues to be at the center of the music of\u00a0Pitchtorch<\/strong>, an\u00a0alt-folk<\/strong>\u00a0trio formed by members of\u00a0The Gutbuckets<\/strong>,\u00a0Guano Padano<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0The Vickers<\/strong>. “Light is something to strive for. Its rays are also made of sounds. The sounds that we try to follow in the midst of what seems more and more like an apocalyptic scenario<\/em>“.\u00a0I Can See The Light From Here<\/strong><\/em>, the new and second album by the Italian band,\u00a0will be released on\u00a0February 3rd, 2023<\/strong>, self-produced with distribution by IRD, following the\u00a0homonymous debut\u00a0of 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cPitchtorch is the ideal fusion of two words \u2013 pitchfork and pitch torch \u2013 and represents music as a light that can guide you through these dark times, not just musically speaking. Pitchtorch is a tuning fork but it\u2019s also a lantern that marks the path to be taken<\/em>\u201d.\u00a0<\/em>A tuning fork, a torch that radiates bright sounds. This is in the\u00a0Pitchtorch<\/strong>\u00a0logo, made by Nazario Graziano. Pitchtorch is the project that \u201ctunes\u201d together three musicians \u2013 based between Florence and Milan \u2013 with relevant and different experiences: guitarist, composer and session player\u00a0Mario Evangelista<\/strong>\u00a0(The Gutbuckets, as well as international producer and author of music fort short films and commercials), bassist and double bass player\u00a0Danilo Gallo<\/strong>\u00a0(Guano Padano, Dark Dry Tears) and drummer\u00a0Marco Biagiotti<\/strong>\u00a0(The Vickers, L’Albero).<\/p>\n

If the previous full length was more cinematic and introspective in questioning the origin of certain problems,\u00a0I Can See The Light From Here<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is an album that talks about solutions, or at least about acceptance, with an even ironic vein and a more decisive focus on the song-form. Here reigns a spacious\u00a0classic rock<\/strong>\u00a0tinged with\u00a0Americana and West Coast, psychedelia, blues and jazz<\/strong>, recalling the influences of The Allman Brothers Band, Calexico and Wilco among others.<\/p>\n

This time there are also some guests, starting with\u00a0Joachim Cooder<\/strong>\u00a0(son of the legendary Ry) on the mbira – an African metallophone modified in a modern version – in the brand new single\u00a0Ask The Dust<\/em><\/strong>, a song dedicated to the literary masterpiece of John Fante, available on all digital platforms today\u00a0January 20th<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The album it\u2019s been recorded the old school way, by three musicians who played live in the same room, with little overdubs here and there,\u00a0under the supervision of Antonio Castiello and Aldo De Sanctis in the Jambona Lab Studio in Livorno.\u00a0Although the songwriting remains by Evangelista, the arrangement process took place with a more collective approach than in the recent past.<\/p>\n

However, each of the ten new songs shows its own structure, including the improvisation in the rehearsal room of\u00a0Downtown Livorno<\/em>\u00a0and the instrumental title track, placed at the end of the tracklist. As we said,\u00a0I Can See The Light From Here<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is pervaded by the reassuring warmth of light and many shades of orange, also present in the\u00a0abstract cover made by\u00a0Xenophilius. “The power of light can be found both in the suggestive power of a sunset and in our personal conception of sound<\/em>“.<\/p>\n
