The sense of time, renunciation and individualism are the themes that inspired the songwriting of\u00a0Aliante<\/em><\/strong>, the new album by Italian band\u00a0Rigol\u00f2<\/strong>, to be released on CD and all digital platforms on\u00a0January 20th, 2023<\/strong>\u00a0by the production company\u00a0Antropotopia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The eight new songs have been affected by the mood experienced over the last few years. The new single\u00a0If<\/em><\/strong>, available today\u00a0November 25th, 2022,\u00a0and the previous two singles\u00a0Leaving The Cockpit<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0I See Your Smile<\/em>, released between 2021 and 2002, talk about the loss of oneself and\u00a0of love, whether by choice or weakness.<\/p>\n

Aliante<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is the fifth full-length album by Rigol\u00f2, a band from Romagna made up of Andrea Carella – founder of the project – and Jenny Burnazzi, who met during their past militancy in the Comaneci, as well as Alessandro Reggiani Romagnoli, and Andrea Napolitano (currently also in the Clever Square line-up).\u00a0Aliante<\/em>\u00a0follows\u00a0Cocoons Should Die Young<\/em>\u00a0(2010),\u00a0Slangenmensch<\/em>\u00a0(2013) and the more recent\u00a0Giant<\/em>\u00a0(2015) and\u00a0Tornado<\/em>\u00a0(2018), both produced together with Mattia Coletti, with the contribution in the second case of Brian Deck (Califone, Modest Mouse) to mastering. The cinematographic attitude of the band, active live both in Italy and in Europe, has also led to the inclusion in various soundtracks.<\/p>\n

Rigol\u00f2 continue to deal with the element of air, but this time, instead of being at the mercy of its strength, the four musicians have found a way to be able to fully exploit it. Recorded and mixed by Riccardo Pasini, an international sound engineer also present as a guest on keyboards,\u00a0Aliante<\/em>\u00a0crosses different musical styles, while remaining faithful to the sounds that characterize the group from Ravenna, between folk<\/strong>\u00a0background and\u00a0post-rock<\/strong>\u00a0structures applied to\u00a0alt-pop<\/strong>. According to the band: “In the studio we put greater attention on the sound research of each specific instrument, which\u00a0finds its own defined space, \u00a0even if fitting into a unitary rendering. The result is a more effective sound<\/em>“. In the arrangements we can trace the influence of names such as Belle and Sebastian and\u00a0Khruangbin,\u00a0Brian Eno and\u00a0Ben Shemie, Sharon Van Etten and Aldous Harding, Bill Callahan and Mark Kozelek.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0electric cello<\/strong>, always preeminent in the compositions of the band, builds melodies that offer various listening keys with unconventional timbres and equalizations. The\u00a0electric guitar<\/strong>\u00a0layers and emphasizes the sonic environments, the\u00a0bass<\/strong>\u00a0plays free in its harmonic designs, while the\u00a0drums<\/strong>\u00a0mark those odd rhythms that beat the full work. The energetic and sunny music complements the gloom of Carella’s essential and thoughtful lyrics,\u00a0conveying the desire for a rebirth. The\u00a0voices<\/strong>\u00a0of Carella and Burnazzi divide and bind together with immediacy, acting in the field of the “double” that dwells in each of us and fueling the cycle of destruction\/regeneration that marks the passage of time.<\/p>\n
