Everything Burns<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is the title track of the new album by\u00a0R.Y.F.<\/strong>, alias of the songwriter and musician\u00a0Francesca Morello<\/strong>, released in 2021 via Bronson Recordings and led by the previous singles\u00a0Cassandra<\/em>\u00a0(with a videoclip starring Silvia Calderoni),\u00a0Normal Is Boring<\/em>\u00a0(feat. So Beast),\u00a0Not Going Anywhere<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Don’t Panic<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Everything Burns<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is R.Y.F.\u2019s first foray into\u00a0electronic music<\/strong>, and an homage to a period of explosive creativity and inspiration. With the pandemic forcing musicians off the road, Morello found herself at home working less with a guitar and more with synthesizers and drum machines.\u00a0Morello developed\u00a0Everything Burns<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0simultaneously\u00a0with her involvement in the composition and live performance of the original music for the new show by the\u00a0internationally-acclaimed\u00a0theater company\u00a0Motus<\/strong>\u00a0(MDLSX<\/em>,\u00a0Panorama<\/em>,\u00a0NELLA TEMPESTA<\/em>). So,\u00a0Everything Burns\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>takes its title, adapted in English, from the new Motus show,\u00a0Tutto Brucia<\/em>, greeted with important feedback from audiences and critics.<\/p>\n

Thematically, R.Y.F\u2019s\u00a0Everything Burns<\/em>\u00a0is a radical confluence of rage and joy; sonically, it is a pressure-cooked combo of\u00a0electroclash and punk,\u00a0<\/strong>able to conquer even the Skunk Anansie, who wanted R.Y.F.\u00a0to open their summer gigs in Italy.\u00a0The fourth album from the solo project of\u00a0Morello,\u00a0Everything Burns<\/em>\u00a0is the synchronistic coexistence of opposites. It is music you could dance or destroy a room to, a cathartic balance of suffering and jubilation \u2014 an electropunk disco steeped in\u00a0queer, feminist subversion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Morello\u2019s lyricism balances poetic observations with explicit and shocking commentary on sexism and gender. The track\u00a0Everything Burns<\/em><\/strong>, a playful yet powerful send-up of discrimination, sees R.Y.F. mockingly deliver sexist and fatphobic insults (\u00abAre you a boy or a girl?\u00bb) on every line except the last, when R.Y.F. declares that \u00abeverything\u00a0 burns\u00bb.\u00a0\u201cSometimes I really would like to burn a lot of things, bad things that are in this world, this society. Patriarchy, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, racism \u2014 burn all discriminations,<\/em>\u201d says Morello, \u201cI believe all discriminations start with the patriarchy, and I would like to burn them all down for the people to be happier \u2014 and freer.<\/em>”<\/p>\n

To be released on all digital platforms today\u00a0August 26th, 2022 <\/strong>on\u00a0Bronson Recordings<\/strong>,\u00a0the brave\u00a0remix<\/strong>\u00a0between italo-disco and dark wave of\u00a0Everything Burns<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0sets the dance floor on fire and was created by Matteo Vallicelli<\/strong>, active for several years in the punk scene, live drummer of The Soft Moon and many others, as well as composer of a\u00a0couple of solo records on Captured Tracks that testify his love for synthetic sounds, film music and experimentation.<\/p>\n
