MIZOOKSTRA<\/strong>\u00a0is a meeting between\u00a0free jazz and electronic music<\/strong>. It is radical\u00a0improvisation<\/strong>\u00a0with no structures at all.<\/p>\n

MIZOOKSTRA is the two-headed project formed by producer and musician\u00a0Mario Conte<\/strong>\u00a0(currently also at work on the original music for the classic theatrical show\u00a0Agamemnone<\/em>\u00a0by the acclaimed director Davide Livermore)\u00a0and saxophonist\u00a0Simone Garino\u00a0<\/strong>(recently selected by MIDJ as one of the best young talents of Italian jazz), together since 2017 thanks to the common attraction towards the most brave and experimental music.<\/p>\n

After the first excerpt\u00a0SESSION#5<\/strong><\/em>, MIZOOKSTRA are now back with the brand new single\u00a0SESSION#7<\/strong><\/em>, now available and taken from the debut album\u00a0Also Sprach MIZOOKSTRA<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(Nietzsche and Strauss are smiling, from another dimension…), to be released on CD, musicassette and digital on\u00a0July 1st, 2022<\/strong>\u00a0via Sangue Disken<\/strong>, with the artwork by Pazzi Design Studio and the calligraphy by Luca Barcellona.<\/p>\n

The synthetic component is analog: no laptops. All of the sounds you are going to listen, from melodies to rhythmic patterns, are instantly created. Nothing is pre-programmed. The sounds made by the saxophones are sampled, filtered and re-elaborated in a constant improvisational flow.\u00a0Therefore, every live show is unrepeatable, depending on the artists’ mood, on the location and on the very moment of the performance.\u00a0An ideal electroacoustic bridge between\u00a0NYC loft jazz scene<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Berghain dancefloor in Berlin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

MIZOOKSTRA<\/strong>\u00a0derives from a word invented by Bertolt Brecht, that is\u00a0“misuk”, literally “misuca”. According to\u00a0Brecht,\u00a0“misuk” meant the opposite of “musik” (bourgeoisie nineteenth-century music), with the reject of any formalism hoping for a music proposal at the same time intellectual and popular. Conte and Garino modified the spelling and added the suffix “-stra”, from orchestra: the sounds of the duo can be modified and multiplied infinitely, as if manipulated by a kind of\u00a0imaginary instant orchestra<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

MIZOOKSTRA is an\u00a0open duo<\/strong>. More than anything else, it represents an intent: to open a window on the\u00a0“dark side”<\/strong>of the music and who plays it. Without any distinction of gender or cultural origin.\u00a0“MIZOOKSTRA was born from a need for communication. In our career we have made very different collaborations and we have noticed that often artists do not express what they really are. We all have a ‘dark side’, but maybe we don’t realize it until someone or something gives us the opportunity to get it out. MIZOOKSTRA is our chance. It is the ritual that frees our black soul. This is only the beginning<\/em>“.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0videos<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0SESSION#5\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>and\u00a0SESSION#7\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>are realized by\u00a0by the director and producer of documentaries\u00a0Davide Tosco<\/strong>, as they were primitive compositions of images that, following a dreamlike narrative, shows scraps of the world we live in through apparently distant associations. One of the elements of Tosco’s research work is the recovery of archival visual materials, inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s “ready-made”, that is the creation of new meanings starting from already existing but decontextualized film objects. Fragmented and inexorable\u00a0cyclicality\u00a0travels along unknown roads.<\/p>\n
