Out today October 14th, 2022 on all digital platforms via We Were Never Being Boring, the brand new single Porn Magazines enriches a memorable year for Prim, the project of the young Italian songwriter Irene Pignatti, at her surprising debut album last January with when monday comes.
Pignatti writes all the music and lyrics of her songs, devoted to a sad pop enhanced by a soft and crystalline voice. The various indie folk influences go from Daughter to Taylor Swift, and the words reflect ordinary-universal events and human emotions. In Porn Magazines Prim’s sound becomes even more elegant and multifaceted, with the use of guitars, bass, drums, keyboards and a gloomy Wurlitzer. The song was mixed by Davide Cristiani at Groundfloor/Bombanella Studio and mastered by Andrea De Bernardi at Eleven Mastering.
According to Prim: “Frustration is the main theme of the song. Not being able to achieve one’s goals, not knowing where one really belongs and which people are really connected to you; these factors lead one to the feeling of frustration. porn magazines is a song I wrote by collecting testimonies from friends and acquaintances, and I put them together by creating an imaginary female character. A ‘she’ who is characterised by negative and melancholic traits, but who is searching for herself and her place in the world. The song also wants to create awareness of the fact that we are actually not alone, and that most negative thoughts are in our heads“.
